I was very wrong. Since the first rumours surfaced of a Mac based on a phone SOC I’ve held the view that this was not a product but an engineering test platform. This was based an understanding of engineering needs for hardware and software development and how products are developed. But also an understanding of keeping intellectual property under wraps and a recognition that Apple doesn’t target the low cost, low quality market.
I was very wrong and remain surprised that Apple have bifurcated their Mac products even further with a lower cost laptop of limited compute power. We’ll have to wait and see how it actually performs.
