@JohnPhilpin I think you should write a post on your setup. šŸ˜‰

@JohnPhilpin The reason I'm drawn to Tumblr is actually the support for MarsEdit with Markdown. So Tumblr is just the host, and the iOS app is there if I need it. But otherwise it's just writing on MarsEdit and clicking "Send to Blog". This won't work with Wordpress(.com) without the Business plan and Plugins. I can write in Markdown but this is permantly rendered into html, loosing the original Markdown.

@JohnPhilpin Over the last couple of evenings as I've looked at this I've seen there's the domain, the hosting, and the CMS. To say nothing of Plugins, HTML, CSS. And now @hjertnes added php and MySQL.

This, this is why Zuckerberg's worth millions. And why I'd looked into Wordpress.com and Tumblr.

@hjertnes That's... geat?

anywhere that can run php and have access to a MySQL database

Now I know how my dog feels when I'm asking her to fetch a stick.

Thanks @hjertnes, but this is far beyond of my knowledge, or the time I have to put into set-up.

@hjertnes As supposed to???

@hjertnes yes, but plug-ins are only available on the Business Plan which is £240/year. Not great value for money.

@JohnPhilpin Currently looking at Wordpress (again)

@matigo Wordpress doesn’t support Markdown, and Tumblr is too much like a social network for my (older) tastes.

@hjertnes @eli I think I agree with @JohnPhilpin. I don’t have Emacs but don’t feel that I’m missing out. My use of text editors is mainly limited to notes in Markdown.

@eli why should ā€œMugglesā€ (like me) install Emacs? Does this only benefit developers?

@jeremycherfas it’s just the new blog, new software problem. How I take the mental image I have and produce it on a responsive site.

@hjertnes Emacs and VI. Now that’s old school.

@JohnPhilpin yeah not funny. Sense of Humour Failure. It’s made worse (if that was possible) by the ā€œWelcome Backā€ banner that pops up.

@ChrisReed he’s playing the UK aim June. Looking forward to it!

@JohnPhilpin Thanks. No pressure!

@JohnPhilpin my starting point is that my own site is geared around my industry observations and my career development, and I want somewhere for larger content. Ironically I expect to only be using Tumblr for hosting and cross-posting to Micro.blog

@sumudu it’s the best I’ve tried and I’m looking forward to OmniFocus 3 this year

@macgenie true. The bits are the only thing that's binary. Everything else is a continuum.

@sumudu or OmniFocus

@brentsimmons Happy Birthday!

Thank you @JohnPhilpin. As a Micro.blog newbie it’s gratifying to see a Monday mention so soon. And I probably should change that profile description.

@sumudu I can also recommend Vector 037 with @danielpunkass

@macgenie my approach is flag/archive/delete then of the flags what do deal with now or defer using OmniFocus. However that doesn’t mean I have the daily discipline to get down to zero daily

@jack sorry 😬 , I’ve only just realised that I’d hijacked your original post.

@jeremycherfas @JohnPhilpin I'm thinking that there's no reasonable way forward. No practical way to get content to/from the Psion, including using the CF card. Perhaps it's had its time.
